The accommodation and food on this trip is easily the best I’ve ever had on any hiking trip. The track is well maintained and easy to follow. Stroll made the logistics seamless and I really enjoyed the experience.
Complete the entire Queen Charlotte Track from end to end with one of Auswalk’s experienced guides. Enjoy stunning views over Queen Charlotte Sound and Kenepura Sound. Hike under the gorgeous native forest canopy.
The Marlborough area has a well-deserved gourmet reputation, and quality accommodations, both of which make for a fabulous and memorable guided walking experience. The accommodations on the track are located right on the water so even when you’re relaxing in the evening you feel as though you are still on the walk. And if you love walking, why not add the Abel Tasman walk into your plans as we can transfer you in between the two walks. Also, the Marlborough area is well known for its excellent wineries. You might want to spend some extra time in the region.
The highlight of the Queen Charlotte walk is staying and eating in accommodations on the water right on the track itself. All of the accommodations are of high quality but are enhanced by their position right on the sound. It is the luxury of first-world living at its’ best that makes this trip as popular as it is. Importantly, you will be warmly welcomed by all of our hosts who are ready to assist in any way they can.
This trip is not available in the winter months of June, July and August due to the accommodations closing over winter. January and February are warmer and generally busier as it is peak season your booking may attract a surcharge. Spring (September to December) and autumn (March to May) are excellent times to walk.
This track is undulating, well-graded and without much incline or decline. Walks on average are about 17 km a day. There’s always time to walk and explore further if you’re up to it. There’s also time to relax and enjoy all of the lodges and hotels’ gorgeous surroundings on sound. There is some elevation to this walk, as outlined on itinerary days so please consider this.
Please note if you walked the Abel Tasman we will transfer you between the two walks at no cost.
There are many ways to get to and from the track. If you have the time it might suit you best to mix the methods of travel in order to facilitate the best experience.
December through February is usually warm to hot with excellent swimming weather. But as mentioned please book well in advance for January and February due to the summer school holidays. March through May and September to November are usually cooler, with long sunny days, perfect for walking.
See the New Zealand Meteorological Service for information about average temperatures and rainfall at different times of the year.

This was a beautiful walk. A couple of longish days but no very steep climbs. Nicely paced for a reasonably fit walker.
All the arrangements were seamless. Another excellent Auswalk experience!
