This walk explores Dubrovnik and Split and four of Croatia’s beautiful islands.
Island hop, visiting remote villages on archetypal Croatian island, including Korcula and its main town Korcula Town, also known as Little Dubrovnik because of its medieval squares, churches and palaces. We also explore the two islands of Sipan and Hvar, similarly stunning; both have extravagant architecture, gorgeous beaches and stunning coastlines.
Mljet is our last island walk. The island is Eden-like, improbably green and salubriously lush, and home to two salted lakes of Veliko and Malo Jezero which locals have swum in for centuries. A perfect contrast to the other walks.
Arrive in Split (we transfer you from the airport) and be met by one of the representatives on the ground to go through the next 7 days with you.
Walking: Easy 1 – 2 km

After breakfast, you will walk to Split harbour from where you will have a catamaran to the town of Hvar. After arriving in Hvar and a short transfer to Velo Grablje you will start walking towards Hvar. You will start walking on the path that connects Velo Grablje and Malo Grablje village. Passing through old villages you’ll see traditional architecture. Small trails that lead you downhill by olive groves will get you to Malo Grablje where locals had the first lavender distillery and lavender was once the main product to export.
Continuing further down the trail are passing through Milna village meandering along pine trees and a wild Mediterranean garden takes you along the coast all the way back to the old town of Hvar.

Once you have finished your breakfast we will transfer you to the port of Gruz to take a one-hour boat ride across to the island of Lopud. These days Lopud is a charming quiet place with fantastic beaches, with no cars or traffic and home to a permanent population of just under 300 Croatians. However, in the past, Lopud was a very important port, with great strategic importance. In the 17th century, it is said to have had a population of 14,000 people, mostly involved in seafaring. In the 18th to the early 20th centuries, it was part of the Republic of Dubrovnik, but before that the French, English and Austrians all took turns in occupying this strategically located island.
The walk explores the island’s momentous maritime past via atmospheric ruins of a fortress, a palace, churches dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries and a restored Franciscan monastery. There’s the added advantage of enjoying the gorgeous beaches and the Med before returning to Dubrovnik in the afternoon.

The island Mljet is 37km long and about an average of 3.2km wide and is considered to be one of the most beautiful in all of Croatia. The National Park makes up most of the island, 84% of the island is forest and is also known as the “green island”. This is a great place to peacefully enjoy the pristine beauty of the natural surroundings of the Mediterranean (the entrance fee to the park can only be paid in person and is not included)
The day starts with a boat ride to Mljet and a walk from the town of Polace towards Montokuc and a magnificent view over the whole island. There’s also an ancient Roman Palace, quaint villages, two large saltwater lakes, Veliko and Malo jezero and plenty of opportunities to take a swim

In the morning after breakfast, you will take a boat from the port of Dubrovnik to Sudjuradj on the island of Sipan, the largest Elafiti island. Walk via the small town of Šipanska Luka and two larger villages of Sipanska Luka and Sudjuradj. The track finds its way across fertile fields and olive groves.
During the 15th century, many of the wealthy Dubrovnik aristocrats built summer manors or palaces on Sipan, the Sorkocevic family mansion in Sipanska Luka is the standout. With 43 old churches and an array of other ancient buildings, it feels as though time has stood still on Sipan. In the late afternoon, the walk returns to the port of Sudjuradj and the boat trip back to Dubrovnik.

From May the temperature begins to rise so be prepared for warmer days if you walk in summer. Shoulder season, spring and autumn are by far the best time as the weather is perfect for walking and the added advantage of having fewer people around in the villages and on the coast (we walk away from the populated areas on the walk so crowds are not an issue.)

Passing through old villages you’ll see traditional architecture. Small trails that lead you downhill by olive groves will get you to Malo Grablje where locals had the first lavender distillery and lavender was once the main product to export.

During the 15th century, many of the wealthy Dubrovnik aristocrats built summer manors or palaces on Sipan, the Sorkocevic family mansion in Sipanska Luka is the standout. The walk is moderate with only some small ascents. Full-day walks average about 13.5 km with 5 to 6 hours of walking each day. There are plenty of opportunities to add more or even reduce the walking if you wish. The walking is over well maintained sometimes ancient paths via the most scenic route possible.

See the weather average temperatures at different times of the year.
