The Queen Charlotte walk is one of New Zealand's best, and most picturesque, walks. The much-celebrated views over the magnificent Queen Charlotte Sound, stunning native forest, and the well-deserved gourmet reputation of the Marlborough work together for a one-of-a kind walking experience. Walk in and out of your accommodation each day, walking from the beginning of the track at Ship Cove all the way to the end at Anakiwa.
Famous for its wine and food, the Marlborough region does not disappoint. This is a magical encounter for all the senses both on and off the track. The accommodations are all excellent and are to be found right next to the track, snuggled up to Queen Charlotte Sound and Kenepuru Sound.
The highlight of the Queen Charlotte walk is staying in accommodations right next to the track itself. The accommodations are all excellent and are further enhanced by their position right on the water. At night, marvel at the incredible beauty of one of New Zealand’s most beautiful natural areas and the peacefulness of the Sounds. It’s the First-World luxury of these accommodations, together with the wonder of the walk itself, that makes the Queen Charlotte Track as popular as it is.
You will be warmly welcomed by all of our hosts, who are ready to assist in any way they can.
Each accommodation has their own onsite restaurants. You will need to pay directly for lunch on the first day, all dinners and all breakfasts on this walking holiday. A packed lunch is included on days 2, 3 & 4. If you would prefer a package with most meals included please see our 6 Day Self Guided Queen Charlotte Walk or the 5 Day Self Guided Queen Charlotte Walk.
This trip is available all year round. We do however suggest you try to avoid January and February when the area gets very crowded with holidaymakers. There is a surcharge at this time and the walking temperature is slightly warmer. However New Zealand is generally cooler than Australia, so there’s no need to worry unless you are really susceptible to heat. Spring (September to December) and autumn (March to May) are excellent times to walk from a temperature perspective.
This track is mostly undulating but well-graded. Walks on average about 17 km a day, with some elevation, so please consider this when choosing this walk. There’s always time to walk and explore further if you’re up to it. There’s also time to relax and enjoy all of the lodges and hotels, and the gorgeous surroundings of the Sounds.
There are many ways to get to and from the track. If you have time, it might suit you best to mix the methods of travel to facilitate the best experience.
December through February is usually warm to hot with excellent swimming weather. As mentioned earlier, book well in advance for January and February due to the summer School Holidays. March through May and September to November is usually cooler, with long sunny days, perfect for walking.
See the New Zealand Meteorological Service for information about average temperatures and rainfall at different times of the year.
We require that you have adequate travel insurance against potential losses, damage or injury, including cancellation costs and loss of luggage.
For all trips that require international travel, you must have purchased travel insurance that also includes medical evacuation coverage.
We also charge a cancellation fee if you cancel your walking holiday after we have confirmed it to cover costs incurred from our suppliers and in the office. See the FAQ section for more information.
For nearly 30 years we have taken pride in providing seamlessly organised walking holidays. However, we know that you’ll still have many questions. You will receive a very detailed information pack and itinerary approximately 6 weeks out from departure outlining all the fine detail and much more.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask one of our destination consultants. You can get in touch with us via our contact form or email us at info@Stroll.com
