Moderate We’ve condensed the highlights of the Great Ocean Walk to take in all of the best walking on this iconic track. Breathtaking coastal scenery, magnificent forests, abundant wildlife and sheer diversity of landscape, this walk bears the mantle of being one of Australia’s most spectacular walks.
The walk shows off the diversity of the region, traversing coastal forest with an abundance of native fauna. The trek ends at the Twelve Apostles, but not before taking a walk down Gibson’s Steps, a stunning perspective of the Apostles which not many walkers are lucky enough to experience.
A pair of expert guides will lead the way, providing the flexibility to walk at a pace that suits you and with the option to shorten the walking if you prefer.
We will depart Melbourne at 7.15 -7.30 am to embark on the Great Ocean Walk travelling on the world-famous Great Ocean Road that starts near Bells Beach, stopping at Lorne on the way. The walk begins from Blanket Bay hiking to Parker Inlet along cliff tops and through coastal forest. If the time permits, we will walk to the lighthouse via Crayfish Bay. This lighthouse has been in operation continuously longer than any other lighthouse in Australia.

Today’s walk is from Cape Otway Lighthouse via Station Beach and Castle Cove to Johanna Beach. There will be an optional short return hike to pretty Rainbow Falls, where a spring cascades down to the rocky coastal platforms below. The track continues through the wind-sculpted sand dunes and along the cliff tops to the Aire River estuary and wetlands. We opt to start the afternoons walk from Castle Cove where the views back to the lighthouse are some of the best on the walk, trekking across more cliff tops all the way to Johanna voted as one of the best beaches in Australia.

We walk down to Milanesia Beach, one of those secret beaches not many people get to. From here, the track continues along the cliff tops, with views all the way back to Cape Otway Lighthouse.
Time permitting we continue to Moonlight Head and a visit to the Gables. The Gables Lookout is perched on one of the highest sea cliffs in mainland Australia. This is a superb spot for whale watching between June and September. The high sea cliffs, breathtaking views, coastal forests and native fauna all work in concert to make this one of the most worthwhile days of walking you’ll find anywhere in Australia.

Today we continue through a grove of casuarinas to Wreck Beach where the remains of two shipwrecks can be inspected. We pass Devils Kitchen on our way to Princetown and the wetlands of Gellibrand River. Our last walk finishes at the Twelve Apostles but not before a walk down Gibson’s steps and views of Gog and Magog, two of the 12 Apostles right up close. Afterwards, we drive back to Melbourne arriving around 7:00 pm.

The trip starts and finishes in Melbourne. Most walks range from 17-20 km on well-formed and well-graded tracks with a few short beach sections. Whilst the walking is mainly easy to moderate, there are a few hills making it tiring in some places. However, Auswalk operates with multiple guides offering easier and harder walk options along the way.
There are many good hotels in central Melbourne to choose from that are in close proximity to our pick up location the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), 180 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne. With an early departure of 7:30 am (we request you be there by 7.15 am) it would be beneficial to stay close to here. Hotels we can recommend are DoubleTree By Hilton Hotel Melbourne, 270 Flinders St Melbourne and Travelodge Hotel Melbourne Southbank, 9 Riverside Quay Southbank. We arrive back in Melbourne at around 7.00 pm on the last day dropping off at the Arts Centre Melbourne.

This is my second walk with Stroll and I have thoroughly enjoyed each walk. It was very professionally organised from booking the walk to actually completing the walk. The accommodation each stay was excellent, the food in restaurants for breakfast and dinner was delicious and the packed lunches were perfect for a walk.
The scroggan (walking snacks) the guides Katie and Georgie prepared for us each morning was plentiful and catered to all tastes
It was a fabulous hike. Excellent food and accommodation. Every aspect was taken care of. Can’t recommend highly enough Stroll.

The variety of trail surfaces, vegetation types and scenery was better than expected. A big shout out to Katie, Georgie and Naomi who were great: friendly, cheerful, relaxed and very helpful with minor details. Their knowledge of the track was excellent and we enjoyed many informative and sometimes funny stories. Naomi was also easy to relate to and was always on the lookout for ways to be helpful to walkers. She was also great at spotting koalas!
All four guides were lovely. They are all really knowledgeable and clearly love their jobs which made the walk very well.
The guides were very helpful as usual and the handover from one to another seemed to work well. I was very appreciative of Katie and Georgie’s help with my heel issues, leech and heat issues. They were kind, professional and good hearted. It was a good group with lots of fun
The Great Ocean Walk is fabulous. It was not an easy bar the first day (only 8km). Scenery was amazing, accommodation brilliant and the Stroll App made navigating simple . The food at both places we stayed was fabulous. Overall a fantastic Stroll adventure.
The Great Ocean Walk is a fantastic way to see this part of Australia. The track is well laid out, and the views of the ocean along the way are amazing. Stroll did a great job organizing this and communicated well with us during the whole booking process.
The whole trip worked really well. Organisation was great, all the people supporting us, transport, accommodation were extremely helpful and really friendly.
I urge anyone who enjoys walking with stunning scenery to do this walk. With medium fitness anyone can do it.

We couldn’t fault any of the experience provided by STROLL, Once we found the path in Apollo Bay, the path was clearly marked all the way , which was perfect for self-guiding. Accommodation was first class, transfers worked perfectly (and we appreciated that the transferer actually put our beer in the fridge so it was cold when we arrived). Meals were outstanding in every case.
What an amazing week we had on the Great Ocean Walk. I honestly couldn’t have asked for more. And the food? I was a bit worried about my food intolerances before the trip, but I needn’t have been – every meal was absolutely delicious, high quality, and carefully catered to my needs. The walk itself was just beautiful – the views of the coast are breathtaking. I particularly appreciated being able to skip a few stages to take it easy on my pre-existing Achilles tendon problems – this flexibility allowed me to enjoy the whole experience without worry. Thank you Stroll for creating such wonderful memories.
The trip was fantastic , transfers were always on time , col and Venessa made these transfers one of the highlights of the trip , accommodation was good and food was brilliant at chi farm , a seamless trip with a magnificent walk , we saw all the wildlife including koala , echidna , wallaby , kangaroo , deer , fox, black cockatoos , various other birds and yes brown , tiger and black snake ( and they left us alone)

I had the best time on the Great Ocean Walk! The walk was incredibly beautiful, the accommodation and staff were lovely and very well organised by Stroll!
We were so glad we arranged this walking holiday with STROLL as the attention to detail in the planning, communication, walking note booklets, booking summary and the app were excellent. All we really had to do was walk and enjoy ourselves. It was everything we’d hoped it would be and we look forward to planning more such walks.
I have just spent the best week walking the Great Ocean Walk with Stroll. The scenery was everchanging & spectacular. The walk itself was challenging in parts but for the most pretty easy going. We fluked fantastic weather for the time of year which made for a pleasant walking experience. There was so much food I don’t think I lost any weight despite walking every day. The food & accommodation was excellent – you did not need to spend any money on the trip, apart from drinks, as everything was provided. We are already looking at where our next Stroll trip might be. Thanks Lee & Bec for a fantastic week.

Accommodation was first class, transfers worked perfectly (and we appreciated that the transferer actually put our beer in the fridge so it was cold when we arrived). Meals were outstanding in every case.

What an amazing week we had on the Great Ocean Walk. I honestly couldn’t have asked for more. And the food? I was a bit worried about my food intolerances before the trip, but I needn’t have been – every meal was absolutely delicious, high quality, and carefully catered to my needs. The walk itself was just beautiful – the views of the coast are breathtaking. I particularly appreciated being able to skip a few stages to take it easy on my pre-existing Achilles tendon problems – this flexibility allowed me to enjoy the whole experience without worry. Thank you Stroll for creating such wonderful memories.

The trip was fantastic , transfers were always on time , col and Venessa made these transfers one of the highlights of the trip , accommodation was good and food was brilliant at chi farm , a seamless trip with a magnificent walk , we saw all the wildlife including koala , echidna , wallaby , kangaroo , deer , fox, black cockatoos , various other birds and yes brown , tiger and black snake ( and they left us alone)

We were so glad we arranged this walking holiday with STROLL as the attention to detail in the planning, communication, walking note booklets, booking summary and the app were excellent. All we really had to do was walk and enjoy ourselves. It was everything we’d hoped it would be and we look forward to planning more such walks.

I have just spent the best week walking the Great Ocean Walk with Stroll. The scenery was everchanging & spectacular. The walk itself was challenging in parts but for the most pretty easy going. We fluked fantastic weather for the time of year which made for a pleasant walking experience. There was so much food I don’t think I lost any weight despite walking every day. The food & accommodation was excellent – you did not need to spend any money on the trip, apart from drinks, as everything was provided. We are already looking at where our next Stroll trip might be.
