We have arranged 3 of the best walks on the Grampian Peaks Trail, beginning in Halls Gap with a slow climb up and over the mountains via the Pinnacle and Mount Rosea. Trek over rugged escarpments with superb views along the way. The walk finishes with the Mount Sturgeon portion of the Peaks Trail, making your way into Dunkeld and your accommodation at the Royal Mail.
The Grampians is sure to inspire with its sheer immensity. Enjoy the serenity, with little chance of bumping into anyone, especially on the last 2 walks.
We have sculpted this walking holiday so that it takes in the very best of the walking in the Grampians. The walking follows a linear path so there’s no backtracking. We stay in Halls Gap at a comfortable motel right in the middle of town. We also stay at the Royal Mail for 2 nights. The hotel has two restaurants, Wickens at Royal Mail, and the casual diner, Parker Street Project, supported by an internationally recognised wine cellar, wine bar, landscaped gardens full of native plants, billabong inspired swimming pool and of course, all the rooms have ensuites.
This walk must start on a Monday or a Wednesday. If you start on a Wednesday you will stay at The Royal Mail on Friday and Saturday night. This will include dinner 1 night at Parker Street Project and dinner at Wickens on the other night. Staying at The Royal Mail on the weekend will have an additional surcharge of $275 per person.
If you start on a Monday, you will stay at The Royal Mail on Wednesday and Thursday night. Dinner at The Parker Street Project is included for 1 night. This is included in the per person price and there is no additional cost.
The dinners in the restaurants are prepared by professional chefs, as are the cooked breakfasts. A continental breakfast is included for the mornings at The Royal Mail.
Each day whilst you’re walking you’ll be provided with a substantial Walkers Lunch and get to eat it at a fabulous location on the track. A Walkers Lunch is varied and may include a high protein type salad, roll or a wrap, muesli bar, cake or muffin and a piece of fruit.
Alcohol or drinks with meals are not included (except tea/coffee and juice with breakfast).
You’ll be walking an average of 17 km a day. Those that enjoy the solitude of nature will appreciate some days where you are more likely to encounter echidnas and kangaroos rather than other people.
There are three walking days on this five-day itinerary starting in Halls Gap and finishing in Dunkeld. There is an option to walk from Halls Gap on the first day if you arrive early enough. We include accommodation from day one to day four, most meals, transfers and comprehensive trip notes and walking maps. We transfer your luggage to the next accommodation so you can focus on enjoying the walking with just your daypack and what you need for the day.

September to November is usually warm. The summer months of December to March are likely to be warm, and sometimes quite hot. During summer, it is common to have daily temperatures in the 30s, with the nights remaining quite warm. April and May are cooler and the winter months of June through August can vary from cool to mild temperatures with the occasional cold, wet spell. The wildflowers are usually at their best between August and November – although there are always some flowers around. Not available during July.
See the Bureau of Meteorology’s information about average temperatures and rainfall at different times of the year.
We require that you have adequate travel insurance against potential losses, damage or injury, including cancellation costs and loss of luggage.
For all trips that require international travel, you must have purchased travel insurance that also includes medical evacuation coverage.
We also charge a cancellation fee if you cancel your walking holiday after we have confirmed it to cover costs incurred from our suppliers and in the office. See the FAQ section for more information.
For nearly 30 years we have taken pride in providing seamlessly organised walking holidays, but we know, even with that in mind, that you’ll have many more questions. You will receive a very detailed information pack and itinerary approximately 6 weeks out from departure outlining all the fine detail and much more.
