OverviewOverview
The Coast to Coast is one of Britain's most iconic long-distance walking routes, devised by legendary fell-walker and guidebook writer Alfred Wainwright in 1973. This 17-day, 309-kilometre walk traverses some of the finest ground in England, crossing from the Irish Sea at St Bees to the North Sea at Robin Hood's Bay through three major national parks: the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, and the North York Moors.
The route favours higher ground and steers clear of urban areas wherever possible, delivering a genuine sense of wildness throughout. This is not an easy pub-to-pub walk, and the opening days through the Lake District are more demanding than many expect. With a little preparation, however, the Coast to Coast is very achievable and enormously rewarding.

Where You'll Stay
Staying in traditional English B&Bs and country pubs is one of the defining pleasures of the Coast to Coast, and sixteen nights across this walk give you the full measure of it. Most properties sit at three or four stars, and the hosts bring a warmth and personal knowledge of the route that sets these stays apart. Many own their properties and have walked the Coast to Coast themselves, in some cases more than once. All are clean, comfortable and stocked with the kind of genuine local hospitality, including crisp local ale, that this part of England does well. On occasion, an alternative property of equal quality may be used in place of those listed due to availability.
What You'll Eat
Proper English hospitality starts at the breakfast table on this walk, with sixteen home-cooked breakfasts included throughout. Fifteen walker's lunches keep you well fuelled across the miles each day. Dinner is yours to discover each evening, and with country pubs and local restaurants lining the Coast to Coast route, that is one of the better parts of the day. Crisp local ales and honest, hearty cooking are never far away, and the hosts at your accommodation are always happy to point you in the right direction.
Note: Please advise us of any food allergies or intolerances at the time of booking. If you have severe allergies, bringing some of your own snacks is recommended, as specialist ingredients can be harder to source along the way.
