2. What Is Included
Inclusions for each holiday are listed in the trip details on our website. Accommodations described are typical for the category and region but are not property-specific and may vary from time to time while remaining of an equivalent standard.
3. Making a Booking
To make a booking, you (the lead passenger) must be at least 18 years of age and have the legal capacity to enter into a contract on behalf of all members of your travelling party. A person making a group booking is assumed to have authority from all other group members to act on their behalf.
A booking is confirmed when we issue a written confirmation invoice following receipt of your deposit. At this point, a contract between you and Universal Hikes Limited trading as Stroll.com comes into existence and these Booking Terms and Conditions apply.
By making a booking, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted these terms on behalf of all members of your travelling party. We reserve the right to decline a booking based on information provided to us.
4. Minimum Numbers
Self-guided holidays
Self-guided walking holidays are independent and operate without a guide. They require a minimum of 2 people booking together for safety and logistical reasons.
Guided group trips
Guided group trips require minimum numbers to operate, which varies by trip. We may elect at our discretion to operate trips with smaller numbers. If numbers are particularly low, we may operate the trip with a reduced guide team. If we cancel a guided group trip due to insufficient numbers, we will advise you at least 30 days before departure and you will have the options described in Section 8 below.
5. Single Room Policy
Our standard advertised prices are based on two people sharing a room. Single rooms may be available upon payment of an additional single supplement fee. Triple rooms are not available.
Solo travellers are welcome on guided group trips. If you wish to share a room, we will do our best to find a roommate of the same sex, with allocations made in order of booking receipt. If no suitable roommate is available, or if you prefer your own room, a single supplement will apply.
6. Deposit and Payment
Deposit
A non-refundable deposit of £250 per person is payable at the time of booking to secure your reservation.
Balance payment
The balance of your holiday cost is due no later than 60 days before your departure date. We will send you a reminder, but it remains your responsibility to ensure payment is received by us on time. If full payment is not received by the due date, we reserve the right to cancel your booking and apply the cancellation charges set out in Section 9.
Late bookings
For bookings made within 60 days of departure, the full cost is payable at the time of booking.
Payment methods
All prices are in pounds sterling (GBP) and payment must be made in GBP. Payment is required by credit card. A surcharge of 1.5% applies to all credit card transactions.
7. Prices
All prices are quoted in pounds sterling (GBP) and are per person unless otherwise stated. Prices are correct at the time of publication but are subject to change.
We reserve the right to correct errors in advertised or confirmed prices. We will notify you of any pricing error as soon as practicable, and you will have the option to proceed at the corrected price or cancel with a full refund of any payments made.
In accordance with the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018, we reserve the right to pass on verified cost increases arising from: changes in transportation costs (including fuel); taxes or fees for services such as airport charges; and exchange rate movements. We will absorb cost increases up to 2% of the holiday price. Any amount above 2% will be charged to you, and we will give you at least 20 days' notice before your departure date of any such increase. If a price increase exceeds 8% of the total holiday cost, you will have the right to cancel and receive a full refund.
8. If You Change Your Booking
If you wish to change your confirmed departure date or transfer to a different trip, you may do so provided that:
- You advise us in writing more than 90 days before departure
- You pay a non-refundable administration fee of £125 per booking
- All other monies paid will be applied to the new date or trip
- Your new departure date is within 12 months of the date you notify us of the change
Changes requested within 90 days of departure (or 75 days for Lord Howe Island) cannot be accommodated as a transfer and will be treated as a cancellation under Section 9. We will do our best to accommodate other types of change where possible; any amendments may be subject to additional supplier costs.
9. If You Cancel Your Booking
All cancellations must be notified to us in writing (email is acceptable) by the lead passenger. The cancellation date is the date we receive your written notification. The following cancellation charges apply per person:
| Days Before Departure | Cancellation Charge (per person) |
|---|---|
| 60 days or more | £250 per person (note: up to £400 for selected trips — see trip page for details) |
| 59–21 days | 50% of total trip price |
| 20–15 days | 80% of total trip price |
| 14 days or fewer | 100% of total trip price |
Special cancellation conditions apply to the following trips:
- Camino in Style: 100% charge applies from 30 days before departure
- All Japan walks: 100% charge applies from 45 days before departure
No refunds will be given for any unused services once a trip has commenced. We strongly recommend that you take out comprehensive travel insurance at the time of booking to protect against cancellation losses.
10. If We Change or Cancel Your Booking
Itinerary alterations
Stroll reserves the right to alter trip itineraries at any time where necessary to ensure the satisfactory and safe operation of a trip. Reasons may include, but are not limited to: weather, walking track or national park closures, road conditions, changes to suppliers, or availability of transport or meals required for the trip to operate. We will always aim to deliver an experience of equivalent standard.
Significant changes
A significant change is one that materially affects your holiday, such as: a change of departure date of more than 24 hours; a change of destination; a change to a lower category of accommodation; or a price increase exceeding 8%. If we need to make a significant change, we will notify you as soon as possible and you may: (a) accept the change; (b) transfer to an alternative holiday of equivalent or greater value at no extra charge, or a lower-value holiday with a refund of the difference; or (c) cancel and receive a full refund of all monies paid.
Cancellation by us
If we have to cancel a guided group trip, we will notify you at least 30 days before departure. If we cancel before the trip has commenced — for any reason — we will offer you the choice of: (a) transferring to a different date or trip; or (b) a full refund of all monies paid, excluding any transaction fees. We will not be liable for any additional losses, including travel, accommodation or other costs you may have incurred.
11. Force Majeure
We regret that we cannot accept liability or pay compensation where the performance of our obligations is prevented or affected by circumstances beyond our or our suppliers' control. These include but are not limited to: war, threats of war, government restrictions, civil strife, terrorist activity, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, adverse weather, epidemic or pandemic, walking track or national park closures, and transport disruptions. In such circumstances we will always make reasonable efforts to find alternative arrangements to allow you to walk if possible.
12. Our Liability
We accept responsibility for ensuring that your holiday is supplied as described and meets a reasonable standard.
If any element fails to do so and this has affected your enjoyment of the holiday, we will pay appropriate compensation - unless the failure was caused by: the fault of a member of your party; a third party unconnected with the supply of your holiday; unusual or unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control; or an event that neither we nor our suppliers could have anticipated or avoided even with all due care.
Our liability is limited to three times the cost of your holiday per person. We do not accept liability for losses that are not a foreseeable consequence of our breach, for business losses, or for losses where you have not taken reasonable steps to mitigate your position. Our obligations are governed by the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018.
13. Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend that you hold, or obtain prior to departure, a comprehensive travel insurance policy covering at a minimum: cancellation and curtailment; emergency medical expenses and repatriation; personal liability; and loss of luggage and personal effects.
We strongly recommend your policy also covers walking, hiking and activity on uneven or remote terrain. Please provide your insurer name and policy number to us before departure.
14. Your Responsibilities and Assumption of Risk
It is your responsibility to:
- Read the walk description and grade information carefully and choose a trip within your physical ability
- Be sufficiently fit to walk for several hours per day over consecutive days, which may include rough tracks, sand, steep terrain, and challenging weather conditions
- Bring suitable clothing and footwear for the conditions
- Disclose any relevant medical conditions or dietary requirements at the time of booking
- Ensure all members of your party hold valid passports and any visas, travel authorisations or health documentation required
- Arrive at departure points at the times specified by us or our suppliers
- On self-guided trips: prepare carefully for each day's walk using the notes and maps provided, stay on marked trails, and take personal responsibility for navigating safely
- On guided trips: follow the reasonable directions of your guide at all times
- Behave in a manner that is respectful to fellow walkers, local communities and the environment. We reserve the right to remove any person from a trip without refund if their behaviour is deemed unacceptable
You acknowledge that walking holidays involve greater inherent risks than everyday activities, including but not limited to: remoteness from medical assistance, rough or unstable terrain, steep ascents and descents, variable and potentially extreme weather, and physical exertion. By booking, you accept these risks as part of the experience.
You also acknowledge that walking tracks and national parks may be closed from time to time due to weather events or other circumstances outside our control, and that Stroll cannot be held liable for any losses arising from such closures.
15. Age Requirements
Guided group trips
Available to participants aged 18 and over.
Self-guided trips
The minimum age is 12 years. Participants aged 12–17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the trip. A waiver of responsibility will be required from the accompanying adult prior to departure. We reserve the right to decline a child's participation if we consider the walk unsuitable based on its difficulty level or other information provided.
Participants aged 80 or over
If you are 80 years of age or over, you are required to provide us with a letter from your GP confirming that you are fit to undertake the walk you have booked.
16. Documentation
After we receive your deposit and completed booking form, we will send you a Fact Sheet with information on how to reach the start and finish of your trip, and guidance on suitable clothing, footwear and equipment. Once your trip is paid in full, we will send you a full Info Pack including maps, information booklets and final notes.
17. Complaints
We want to provide you with an enjoyable walking holiday. If you experience a problem during your trip, please raise it immediately with your accommodation host or guide so that we have the opportunity to resolve it on the spot. If it cannot be resolved at the time, please contact Stroll directly by phone or email as soon as possible.
Any unresolved complaint must be submitted to us in writing within 28 days of your return home. Failure to follow this procedure may affect our ability to investigate your complaint and may reduce or extinguish any entitlement to compensation.
18. Jurisdiction and Governing Law
These Booking Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising in connection with your booking shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, unless you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in which case you may bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.
19. Data Protection
We process your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which forms part of your contract with us. Please read our Privacy Policy carefully before making a booking.
