Overview

Few walks in Britain carry the weight of legend that the Coast to Coast does. Devised by Alfred Wainwright in 1973, the route starts at the red sandstone cliffs of St Bees on the Irish Sea and finishes in the fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea. In between, it passes through three distinct national parks: the dramatic fells of the Lake District, the limestone dales of Yorkshire, and the heather-clad North York Moors. Evenings end in village pubs and characterful inns, where the camaraderie of fellow walkers is as much a part of the experience as the walking itself.
