Overview

The Flinders Ranges are the closest outback landscape to any Australian capital city, yet they feel utterly remote. At the heart of it all is Wilpena Pound - a vast natural amphitheatre of peaks sacred to the Adnyamathanha People for tens of thousands of years. The walks here take you up and over the Pound wall, through rocky creek beds and tight gorges, across valley floors framed by ancient river red gums. The colour palette alone is unforgettable: burnished orange cliffs, terracotta earth, silver saltbush and jade-green native pines. This is a landscape that gets under the skin and pulls people back.
