Overview

Discover Sicily's soul on our exclusive 8-day self-guided walking adventure along the historic Magna Via Francigena. Leave the tourist crowds behind and venture into Italy's last authentic frontier, where sweeping landscapes meet heartfelt hospitality. This isn't just a vacation; it's a journey connecting the ancient harbours of Palermo and Agrigento via centuries-old "Trazzere" pathways. Here, authentic Sicily reveals itself with every step, through Totò's warm welcome, Giuseppe's infectious enthusiasm, and Francesca's homemade delicacies.

The walk weaves through miracle springs, historic sanctuaries and hidden villages frozen in time. Savour freshly-made ricotta from local farmers, indulge in perfect pistachio cannoli and uncover cultural treasures from Corleone's complex history to Sutera's enchanting Arabic quarter.
This carefully crafted route delivers what luxury cannot buy with genuine connections, unspoiled vistas, and the true essence of Sicilian life. Transform your perception of travel on the path less taken. Sicily awaits.

Highlights

  • Experience genuine Sicilian hospitality, where warmth, passion, and pride in their culture shine through every conversation.
  • Soak up the artistic contrasts, the buzzing, chaotic energy of "Balarm," Palermo's Arabic name, and the breathtaking view of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.
  • Step back in time in historic villages, from the birthplace of legendary writer Leonardo Sciascia to the winding Arabic-style alleyways of Sutera’s old town.
  • Lose yourself in Sicily’s untamed backcountry, where rugged landscapes and pristine nature promise an unforgettable adventure.
  • Dig into a decadent cannoli pie packed with creamy ricotta, crunchy pistachios, and zesty candied orange.

Where You'll Stay

Nights on this route begin in comfortable three-star hotels and B&Bs in the larger towns, before giving way to agriturismos and B&Bs as the walk heads deeper into the villages and countryside. The agriturismos are family-run farm stays set within the Sicilian landscape, where the slower pace of rural island life makes for a welcome end to a day on the trail. All rooms have private bathrooms throughout.

Alternative Accommodation

We do our best to avoid changes to the accommodation, but during peak season there is a possibility that you may stay somewhere different from what is pictured in the itinerary. Where this happens, minor adjustments to the start or end of your walking routes may be necessary. Please check your confirmed accommodation against the itinerary and note any changes carefully, as it is important to remain attentive to the route details throughout. In cases where alternative accommodation is used, we will always aim to maintain the same standard and keep you in the same towns and villages wherever possible, though this cannot always be guaranteed.

What You'll Eat

Seven breakfasts are included throughout the trip, each one a classic Italian spread to set you up before the day's walking begins. On the fourth day, in Cammarata, dinner is also included. Beyond that, lunch and dinner are yours to discover, and Sicily makes that a genuine pleasure, with exceptional local dishes and regional wines waiting in the towns and villages along the route.

Note: Please advise us of any food allergies or intolerances at the time of booking. If you have severe allergies, bringing some of your own snacks is recommended, as specialist ingredients can be harder to source along the way.
