Overview

Experience the very best of the Northern Camino pilgrimages on this private, bespoke itinerary designed for groups of two or more. Free from crowds, busy roads and public transport, private transfers connect the finest sections of three distinct Camino routes, creating a seamless and deeply immersive walking experience. The journey combines the two main routes via the ancient Caminos Vadiniense and Lebaniego — the old connections once used by pilgrims to visit significant relics along the way. The landscapes shift dramatically throughout, from the dry central plateau and flatlands of Castile and León to the lush Cantabrian coast and the craggy peaks of the Picos de Europa. A Camino experience unlike any other.

Itinerary

Day 1

PAMPLONA22 km

Your start point is in the town of Bilbao where we collect you for the drive of just under 3 hours up to Roncesvalles in the Spanish Pyrenees, the traditional starting point of the Camino in Spain. Spend a pre-night in Bilbao to visit the Frank Gehry designed Bilbao Guggenheim and explore the picturesque city. Our local guide will go over the maps and walking notes for your journey before starting your first hike. The first walk gradually descend from Roncesvalles in the Basque Pyrenees, through isolated villages and woodland towards the village of Zubiri where you end today's walk at 21.5km. After refreshment in the village bar, you are picked up for the short drive to your hotel in the heart of the old city of Pamplona. Take time this evening to stroll around the heart of the city, perhaps even following the route of the Encierro, also known as the running of the bulls. There are two earlier pick up points today if you would like a shorter walk.

What You'll Eat

Twelve breakfasts, seven lunches and two evening meals are included throughout the walk. In larger towns where restaurant choices are plentiful, the freedom to choose where you eat is part of the experience — your walk notes include a handpicked dossier of local recommendations, favouring the places where locals actually eat rather than tourist traps.

Note: Drinks and alcohol are not included with meals, with the exception of tea, coffee and juice served with breakfast.
