Staff Pick
"Stunning scenery, wonderful family-run hospitality and the ability to make your own adventure suited to any challenge level. The combination of the views and the comfort makes this the best walking holiday on the planet."
– Ian, Walking Holiday Specialist
Overview
Trek the western section of the Tour du Mont Blanc, hiking from Chamonix in France to the Italian mountain town of Courmayeur. From Chamonix, trek below the Bionnassay Glacier to the enchanting Refuge de Miage and onto the delightful town of Les Contamines in the Haute Savoie region.
Continue over the Col du Bonhomme to the small village of Les Chapieux before heading over the Italian border to witness the dramatic, jagged peaks of the southern Mont Blanc Massif before descending into Courmayeur. The last day of walking above the Val Ferret features astounding vistas of tumbling glaciers, snowy summits and forested valleys. In the evenings, stay in family-run hotels and chalets serving traditional dishes and, of course, large glasses of red wine!
Please note: additional transfer fees may apply if our regular accommodation providers have no availability for your preferred departure date. Where You'll Stay
Nights are spent in three-star hotels and traditional mountain auberges, each well-equipped for trekkers and chosen for their comfort and character. Rooms are simple but very comfortable, and all properties are accustomed to welcoming walkers. Occasional substitutions in off-track towns of equivalent quality may be necessary — these will always be discussed during the booking process.
What You'll Eat
Six breakfasts and two dinners are included throughout the walk. In smaller mountain properties, meals are often served at communal tables with set mealtimes — a convivial and very alpine way to end a long day on the trail. Lunches are yours to discover along the way, and the towns and villages of the Tour du Mont Blanc are renowned for their artisan cheeses and cured meats, many still produced by hand. Farmers markets are a highlight when encountered, and some accommodations will prepare a packed lunch on request. Daily walk notes include detailed suggestions on where to buy lunch each day.
Note: Please advise us of any food allergies or intolerances at the time of booking. If you have severe allergies, bringing some of your own snacks is recommended as specialist ingredients can be harder to source in the mountains.
