Walking the Granite Coast of Brittany - 5 days

The walk starts in Perros Guirec and finishes in Lannion, on the Granite Coast of Brittany. The most convenient entry point is Paris, from where high-speed trains reach Lannion in around 3 to 4.5 hours. Rennes Airport (RNS) is a closer alternative, though with more limited international connections. Transfers to your hotel from Lannion or Guingamp can be arranged on request. Book French rail tickets in advance through SNCF.

The walk ends in Lannion, which has its own railway station a short walk from the town centre, with onward connections to Guingamp and Paris for return journeys.

This walk is available from 5 January to 15 December, with no fixed start days. Each season offers something different: spring brings flowers to the clifftop paths, summer means long days by the sea, autumn sets the landscape ablaze, and winter wraps the coastline in its own dramatic atmosphere. June and September are the sweet spots, with mild temperatures, quieter trails and exceptional coastal light. July and August are the driest months but the busiest. Winter walkers will find near-empty paths and a rawer quality to the granite cliffs, though some facilities may be reduced. Pack waterproofs and layers whatever the month.

The terrain is predominantly flat and straightforward underfoot. Comfortable, supportive footwear is recommended. Distance and elevation demands are both modest, so regular walks to build cardiovascular fitness, with some light resistance training, is sufficient preparation. Daily walk notes, maps, and GPX tracks are provided.

You must hold adequate travel insurance for your trip, including cover for personal liability and accidental injury and illness. For all trips involving international travel, your policy must also include emergency medical treatment, evacuation and repatriation cover. We strongly recommend your policy also covers trip cancellation and curtailment, and loss of or damage to luggage.

A cancellation fee usually applies if you cancel after your booking is confirmed. Travel insurance with cancellation cover will generally cover this fee, so it's worth arranging your policy at the time of booking.

Bird lovers may wish to take a return transfer back to Perros-Guirec to take a boat excursion to the ‘7 Iles’ archipelago, France's largest seabird reserve. Departing from the Nautical centre on Perros-Guirec, embark on a 1h 45 min excursion exploring this remarkable natural site. The Sept-Îles form France’s largest seabird reserve. Over 25,000 pairs of seabirds from around 30 species find refuge here, including the northern Gannet (the only colony in France), Atlantic Puffin, Common Murres, European Shags and Razorbills. You also cruise along the pink granite coast in Ploumanac’h for another spectacular sighting of the infamous rock formations.

Please check the tide schedule every day before setting off. Tides are an important factor to consider before each hike to ensure safety and avoid the risk of being trapped by rapidly rising water, especially in areas with a high tidal range (significant difference between high and low tide). Some parts of the hike may not be accessible at high tide, and you will need to take the detour route indicated in the route notes.
