Overview

Hadrian's Wall is one of the ancient world's most remarkable structures, a UNESCO World Heritage Site stretching 135 kilometres from coast to coast across northern England. Built on the orders of Emperor Hadrian to mark the boundary between Roman Britannia and the unconquered north, the wall remains substantially intact, a testament to the ambition and reach of the Roman Empire.

The walk traces the remnants of forts, towers, turrets, and towns that once stood as sentinels along the frontier, bringing the world of ancient Rome to life through rare artefacts, hands-on museum exhibits, and the stories of those who lived on the edge of the empire.

Where You'll Stay

During this walk, seven nights are spent in quaint English B&Bs and guesthouses, each property selected for its position along the Hadrian's Wall route. Securing accommodation directly on the track is notoriously difficult and on two nights the walk stays in properties just off the track. Having personally walked the route and assessed all the available options, we found these properties to offer a more interesting and enjoyable experience than what is available on the track itself.

On those two nights, a short taxi ride of three to five kilometres will be required and this cost is at your own expense. Where any listed property is unavailable, a similar alternative of equivalent standard will be arranged and discussed with you during the booking process.

Hosts throughout are knowledgeable about the region and ready to help with any questions that come up along the way. The team is also reachable throughout the walk should you need anything at all. Hadrian's Wall accommodation fills up quickly so booking as early as possible once your dates are set is strongly recommended.

What You'll Eat

Seven home-cooked breakfasts are included throughout this walk, one each morning to set you up before stepping out onto Hadrian's Wall. Lunch and dinner are yours to find each day, and the villages and pubs along the route offer good eating at most stops.

Note: Please advise us of any food allergies or intolerances at the time of booking. If you have severe allergies, bringing some of your own snacks is recommended, as specialist ingredients can be harder to source in more remote parts of this walk.
